Maintaining a Film Group

SELECTING & RESERVING FILMS

Series vs. Single Films: There are two basic ways that a group can choose films:

  • a series of movies linked around a topic; or
  • individual tapes that are selected one by one

Watching related films–such as from the series suggested in this guide–creates a thematic framework. Having a general theme can make for easier discussions. However, groups that watch individual, unrelated tapes might find that unexpected connections between films often appear as well.

Reserving the Film: If the local JHVC does not have a reservation system, arrangements should be made so that videos are available for groups when needed. Rental time is also needed for the facilitator to preview tapes.
